An Important 59 Cents

In the early eighties compact discs had not made it to the consumer market yet.  "New Wave" was still quite new.   Vinyl was still the medium of choice.  Yes, there was cassette tape, but vinyl did sound better.  Just look up the "signal to noise ratio" for either.

In those days, going to the record store was a frequent event.  I don't recall what records I bought this particular time, but I recall there being "The New British Invasion" EPs for sale at the cash register.  Even in 1982, 59 cents was a bargain for four tracks!  It is an unusual record.  It's a 7" "donut hole" format with a playback speed of 33 and 1/3 rpm.

When I listened to this record recently I thought "What a cool snapshot of the 80s!"  This record is (P) and (C) 1982.  Perhaps the 59 cents spent on this was instrumental in my musical preference shifting away from the "heavy metal hair bands" of the time.

Oddly, the only track that didn't have a video done for it back in the early 80's was Duran Duran's " New Religion".  The only original video below is the "Classix Nouveau" track.  The "New Religion" video is a video mash-up of Duran Duran performances done to the album version of  the track.

I apologize for the inconsistent mixes and volume levels of the YouTube videos.  I have no control over such.

This is a collage of Duran Duran videos done with "New Religion" as the backing track.  New Religion was from the album "RIO".

The video for Classix Nouveaux's track "Is It A Dream", from the album "La Verité".  I didn't realize until working on this that the lead singer, Sal Solo, also did the track "San Damiano".

A remastered version of "Europa and the Pirate Twins" video by Thomas Dolby, from his debut LP, "The Golden Age Of Wireless".

"Talk Talk" by the band of the same name [extended version].  The LP it came from was "The Party's Over"; the cover of that album is rather unique.
