The Old SONY

My Grandpa's  SONY Tapecorder model 101 was a machine that fascinated me as a young lad.  These were the days just before the compact audio cassette  was brought out on the market.  To think, one would have to manually thread the tape to the take up reel!  No self threading or auto-stop options here.

The above photo is actually my old SONY Tapecorder 101.  The other YouTube videos on this page have been posted by different people of the same model of deck.

It sounds like there are some speed problems happening here.  To me, it sounds like playback starts slowing down after "play" had been engaged.

To record or to fast-forward, one needed to use two hands.  The machine is a two track (or half track) monaural deck.  Audio would be recorded on one half of the tape, and when that side of the tape was finished, you'd flip over the reels, swap them, rethread, and record on the other half of the tape.
